If you want an immersive experience in the land of the Bible, a modern nation rich with culture, diversity, beauty, and challenge, then come to Israel with us for eight weeks of exploration, study, and connection with the people and places of the Holy Land.

Through an eight-week study experience in Israel, participants will live at the student village of Hebrew University of Jerusalem on Mount Scopus. The program includes field trips and tours to locations throughout Israel, lectures from professors at Hebrew U, and opportunities to connect with local communities in Israel.

Before subsidization, the Passages Study Abroad Program costs approximately $10,000.

Because of Passages’ generous donors, this opportunity is available to participants for a $3,000 registration fee, domestic airfare, some meals, and select additional costs below.

This eight-week experience will give you a chance to deepen your knowledge and hear from renowned experts on a variety of topics.


Living in the Student Village of Hebrew U for eight weeks will give you access and time to immerse yourself in Israeli life and culture. You’ll be able to practice your Hebrew and travel with other participants to locations and sites that you may not have visited otherwise.

To truly encounter Israel in a deep way, it’s essential to build relationships with the people who live there. During your eight weeks, you will have opportunities to spend time with locals through facilitated conversations and observing Shabbat together.

The Program

Phase 1 | Pre-Trip:

  • Application, Interview, Acceptance, and Visa Application.
  • Passages Pre-trip course which introduces the core goals of the program: strengthened Christian faith, introduction to modern Israel, and leadership development. The course includes modules on the roots of Christianity, the biblical redemptive narrative, Jewish-Christian relations, and the history of modern Israel.

Phase 2 | The-Trip:

8-Week Program living in the Student Village of Hebrew University in Jerusalem! These 8 weeks will include:

  • 2-week quarantine with built-in study programming
  • Class for credit at Hebrew University
  • 2-week Israel tour
    • Our itinerary is designed to accomplish the goals of Passages: to point trip participants to the roots of their Biblical faith and to introduce them to the complex landscape of modern Israel. Participants visit sites including Capernaum, the Mount of Beatitudes, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the Garden of Gethsemane. They hear from a diverse range of local speakers who help them understand Israeli culture, Jewish-Christian relations, government and economy, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and geopolitical and security issues surrounding Israel.

Phase 3 | Passages Capstone: 

  • After returning from Israel, participants begin the Passages Capstone which expands upon the educational themes from the trip to Israel, and encourages practical application. Participants will apply these lessons by submitting a Capstone Reflective Project, in addition to their final assignment from Hebrew U. As participants complete those projects, they are welcomed into the Passages Leaders Network as alumni.

Phase 4 | Passages Leaders Network, An Ongoing Alumni Network

  • The Passages Leaders Network (PLN) creates value for our alumni through intentional connections. PLN offers further engagement by providing additional educational content related to faith and Israel, facilitating a mentorship program, and promoting job listings, industry-specific networking groups, and community events. The ongoing impact of the Passages program is the result of the quality of Passages’ vast network of alumni leaders.

What experience should I list on my application?

Candidates with proven campus or church leadership, academic excellence, and involvement with Israel on campus will be considered as the ideal applicants.

What are the exact dates of the program?

Would I be able to leave the country and come back during the eight weeks?

No, due to the Israeli government’s quarantine requirement you will need to stay in Israel for the duration of the program.

What will my accommodation be like?

Participants will live in a shared 5 person single-sex apartment located in the Student Village of Hebrew University. Each apartment has 5 bedrooms, shared bathroom and kitchen facilities, and a living room. Each bedroom contains a bed, desk, chair, and closet.

I have seen a few mentions of quarantine upon arrival, what does that mean exactly? 

Israel has a strict quarantine requirement when coming back from abroad or after having come into extended contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. During the quarantine period you will be kept in isolation with the other participants in your apartment. You will not be able to leave the apartment for the length of the quarantine for any reason except in case of emergency. 

How will we receive living essentials during quarantine? 

You will be provided with food and basic living essentials in your apartment upon arrival.

Do I need to purchase my own health insurance? 

No, the program covers limited health insurance that includes COVID-19 medical needs. The insurance does not cover pre-existing conditions. If you have a pre-existing condition you may want to purchase additional coverage.
